Barmajhiya is a small town near Koshi river in Kanchan Roop Municipality, Saptari district, which is famously known for Peda. Peda is a kind of sweets made from of milk and sugar, and often with flavors like cardamom. These sweets are very popular in southern plains of Nepal. In Barmajhiya, almost all houses along the east-west highway have peda shops. But the oldest and original one might be little confusing to find. Avoid all the similar names claiming oldest and original, and head to ‘Shree Baijanath Shah Peda Bhandar’, which is located almost adjacent to Armed Police Force camp (left while traveling towards east). The shop was opened around 25 years ago by late Baijanath Shah.
Thank you Kunal Chaudhary for taking me there!
